It does not inherently have more caffeine than a latte of the same size; the caffeine comes from the shots, not the cream base. The 7 Energy category uses a commercial energy drink concentrate as the base rather than espresso. The caffeine content is similar to popular canned energy drinks. A medium 7 Energy drink delivers approximately 80–160 mg of caffeine, depending on how much base is used relative to the lemonade, water, or other mixer in the drink.

Energy drink caffeine tends to metabolize differently than espresso caffeine for some people, largely because energy bases also contain taurine, B vitamins, and other compounds.
